As for the title "A Sociolinguist's Journey," Chen Yuan believed it was better "without any adjectives" and that it was better to keep it "vague." In the end, it was titled "A Journey." Chen Yuan later included this article as an appendix at the end of the third volume of the "Collected Works of Chen Yuan on Linguistics." He hopes this small book will inspire readers who are interested in language and language-related issues.
While assisting Chen Yuan in reviewing and organizing the three-volume "Collected Works of Chen Yuan on Linguistics," the author had the opportunity to frequently engage in discussions with Chen Yuan about topics from ancient to modern times and from China to the world, particularly when he heard Chen Yuan recount his own life journey. The author felt deeply inspired and gained profound lessons. After the three volumes were compiled, the author organized some of the content into an article based on his memory and simple notes, titled "Interviews: A Sociolinguist's Journey," and asked Chen Yuan to review it. Chen Yuan carefully read the entire text, word by word, making edits and refinements. He then changed the title from "Interviews" to "Dialogues," resulting in the book you see today.
