On January 1st, in the Big Forest, there lived many, many little mice. They were all very small and mostly very cute. Because they lived in the forest, people called them forest mice. Have you ever seen them? Those cute little animals. They come in brown, gray, and white. Because they hid very well, you wouldn’t often see them in the forest. They were a little afraid of grown-ups and also afraid of children. Because, to them, all humans were too big! These scary giants must be dangerous. Of course, that’s just the mice’s way of thinking.
Finding little mice isn’t an easy task, but they were right there! Maybe one would run past your feet. They would dig narrow tunnels everywhere—the ground under the forest, under your house’s floor, everywhere. All the mice in the Big Forest lived in a big house, and each had their own small room. There were also many shared rooms. From the outside, you couldn’t see their house—it was dug by the mice themselves underground, and they called it the Big Mouse Hole!
The mice are playing outside now, having a lot of fun! When it gets close to dark, they quickly return to the hole, and now you can’t see a single mouse.
