January 1st, a flying banana
"Look here," shouted the little monkey Mic, "did you see those yellow bananas at the top of the tree? They're so delicious! I'm going to pick some!"
"But that's too high!" said her sister Mili. "There's nothing to hold onto up there, you'll fall!"
"I won't fall," Mic said. "I'm good at climbing trees." With that, he climbed up.
Mili watched him climb higher and higher, almost reaching the bananas. "Oh my goodness, it's so high!" she thought.
"Look at me!" Mic grabbed a banana and shouted. But the banana was slippery and hard to hold. He tugged and tugged until finally, it came down. But to stay on the tree, Mic had to hold on tightly, and the banana fell right into Mili's arms.
"Thank goodness," Mili thought. She peeled the banana and ate it quickly.
"It's so delicious!" she said, throwing the peel away.
Mic had already come down and found the banana on the ground. He looked at it and saw only the peel—it was empty inside.
"Where's my banana?" Mili asked in surprise.
"Didn't you see?" she said. "I did. When the banana fell from the tree, it flew out of the peel. Bananas can fly—you didn't know that?"
Mic scratched his ears. That was amazing—bananas could fly? Really? He picked some leaves and started chewing, but they weren't even half as tasty as bananas.
Mili remembered the delicious bananas and happily licked her lips.
She thought: If Mic was this foolish next time, that would be great.
