Features: Is the Dublin society depicted in Ulysses realistic? The best witness might be Shaw, who is nearly thirty years older than Joyce, also grew up in Dublin and shared the same passion for social reform. He confirmed several times in correspondence that the realism and necessity of Ulysses were accurate: "I am interested in it [Ulysses] because I also lived in Dublin when I was young."
