Features: Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is a weapon for preventing and treating diseases and an important part of the treasure trove of TCM. Through long-term life practices, humans have become more eager to return to nature, leading to the current "herbal medicine fever" in the international community. People are increasingly realizing the importance of the variety and quality of traditional Chinese medicinal materials. The saying "Without traditional Chinese medicine, there is no traditional Chinese medicine" encompasses profound meaning, indicating that the quality of traditional Chinese medicinal materials directly affects the clinical efficacy of TCM. Currently, in China's survey of traditional Chinese medicinal materials, there are approximately 5,000 species nationwide, with about 1,000 entering the commercial circulation channel, and about 500 to 600 commonly used species. Under the current open and dynamic conditions for the production and operation of medicinal material commerce, urban markets can sell traditional Chinese medicinal materials, and medical departments often purchase raw medicinal materials independently. To improve the knowledge, technical skills, and accuracy of medicinal material identification, there is an urgent need for simple, rapid, and accurate tools for identifying traditional Chinese medicinal materials. Previous books on TCM identification were mostly text descriptions and hand-drawn ink line diagrams, often making it difficult to match them with the actual medicinal materials and accurately identify the species. Today, with the advancement of science and technology, especially the development of audio-visual technology, the China National Institute for the Control of Pharmaceutical and Biological Products and the Guangdong Provincial Institute for Drug Control, with their rich collections of specimens, compiled the Illustrated Dictionary of Authentic and Counterfeit Traditional Chinese Medicinal Materials, with participation from drug control institutions in Guangzhou, Shanghai, and other cities. This work holds significant theoretical value and practical significance for inheriting, organizing, and promoting traditional medicine, marking a joyous event.
The features of this work are as follows: The entire dictionary includes approximately 700 species and over 2,000 types of medicinal materials. It offers a wide variety of species, complete specifications, and accurate identification. It also includes a large number of regionally used medicinal materials with the same name but different substances, as well as counterfeit and substandard products. The photographs feature clear features and realistic colors, accurately reflecting the appearance of the actual materials. The text and images correspond well, making it easy to understand, truly a practical, concise, and high-quality color atlas.
This work is of great scientific significance and practical value for correctly identifying the species of traditional Chinese medicinal materials, ensuring their quality, guaranteeing the safety and efficacy of clinical medication, and improving the scientific rigor of TCM research.
The Illustrated Dictionary of Authentic and Counterfeit Traditional Chinese Medicinal Materials includes over 5,000 species of genuine, non-genuine, and counterfeit traditional Chinese medicinal materials, published in four volumes: Volume I (Common and Precious Medicinal Materials and Imported Medicinal Materials), Volume II (Common Root and Rhizome Medicinal Materials), Volume III (Common Seed and Fruit Medicinal Materials), and Volume IV (Flowers, Whole Herbs, Barks, Vines, Woods, Animal, Mineral, and Other Medicinal Materials). The species included in the entire work are reliably identified, with true and counterfeit comparisons, comprehensive species coverage, and rich content. The printed color images are captured using high-quality reversal film, with clear photographs, strong three-dimensional effects, no shadows, and accurate colors. The medicinal materials presented are representative, with complete identification features and prominent key points. The accompanying text is concise, easy to understand, and well-illustrated, making it highly scientific and practical.
Volume I (Common and Precious Medicinal Materials and Imported Medicinal Materials) includes 86 main species, along with their non-genuine and counterfeit counterparts, totaling 818 species, with over 1,040 color images. To facilitate reference and use for readers engaged in the production, operation, and inspection of traditional Chinese medicinal materials, as well as for non-professionals, the book includes numerous ecological specimens and microscopic feature images, as well as magnified images of identification parts. It also features diagrams and illustrations for identification, along with necessary indexes.
