Features: Peking Union Medical College Hospital (PUMCH) was established in 1921 as the affiliated hospital of Peking Union Medical College, a private institution founded by the Rockefeller Foundation in China. PUMCH is the clinical college of Peking Union Medical University, the clinical research institute of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, and a large comprehensive hospital integrating medicine, education, and research. It is also one of the technical guidance centers designated by the Ministry of Health for the diagnosis and treatment of difficult and critical illnesses. The hospital boasts an outstanding team of medical professionals, educators, and researchers, as well as advanced equipment. With a full range of specialties and strong technical capabilities, PUMCH has consistently been at the forefront of medical, research, and teaching in China for over 80 years. It holds a significant position in the history of modern Chinese medicine and enjoys a high reputation. In March 2002, it was approved by the State Council to merge with Beijing Postal General Hospital and reorganized as Peking Union Medical College Hospital under the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. The hospital covers an area of 170,000 square meters, has nearly 2,000 inpatient beds, and employs 3,355 staff, including over 400 full professors and associate professors. PUMCH currently has 10 national key disciplines, 7 joint research centers with foreign investment, 42 clinical and technical departments, and 55 wards. Its average daily outpatient and emergency visits exceed 5,000, and annual inpatient admissions exceed 30,000.
Based on years of clinical practice, PUMCH has compiled a series of books reflecting its current medical and diagnostic standards titled Clinical Guidelines of Peking Union Medical College Hospital. The series includes 37 volumes covering departments such as Cardiology, Hematology, Respiratory Medicine, Endocrinology, Infectious Diseases, Immunology, Allergy, Gastroenterology, Neurology, Nephrology, General Surgery, Orthopedics, Thoracic Surgery, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Urology, Neurosurgery, Plastic Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Anesthesiology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Dermatology, Laser Therapy, Radiology, Ultrasound Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Intensive Care, Otolaryngology, Stomatology, Ophthalmology, Pathology, Laboratory Medicine, Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Nuclear Medicine, Physical Rehabilitation, and Nutrition. These volumes encompass most clinical and technical departments. The publication of this series meets the needs of clinical medical work and modern hospital management. It serves not only as a systematic guide for PUMCH's clinical operations but also as a reference for medical peers nationwide. The editor-in-chief believes that the compilation of this series is a summary and refinement of past work experience, aiming to provide basic procedures and methods for clinical practice. It reflects currently mature and applicable methods and technologies, which will need to be continuously updated and revised with the advancement of disciplines. The publication of this series does not hinder the development of new medical technologies or technological reforms.
