Publish Date: 2005-02-01
Features: This book, as an introduction to designing compensation systems based on practical experience, has distinct characteristics compared to similar books:
· The book aims to solve real-world problems in enterprises. In addition to a brief explanation of relevant concepts and theories, it provides numerous specific cases, solution approaches, tools, and operational methods developed by the author during practical experience, offering strong practicality for enterprises.
· The theoretical foundation and methodology of the book are not directly derived from Western management theories but were gradually refined and formed by the author during consulting processes. Therefore, the theoretical basis and methodology originate from the practical process of designing compensation systems in Chinese enterprises and have been proven suitable for the realities of Chinese enterprises during our consulting work.
· The book not only addresses compensation system design from the perspective of human resource management personnel but also designs compensation systems from the perspective of enterprise managers.
· Although the book discusses the design of enterprise compensation systems, human resource management as a whole is closely interconnected among its internal modules. Therefore, the compensation system design introduced in the book is not isolated but integrated with other parts of the human resource management system. The book's structure follows the steps of designing a compensation system, with a total of eight chapters. Chapter 1 provides an overview of compensation design, discussing common issues in Chinese enterprises' compensation systems and introducing the basic theories of compensation design. The other chapters are structured around each step or core component of the compensation system design. During our practical experience, job analysis, job value assessment and compensation tier design, employee competency assessment and compensation tier positioning, compensation structure design, and employee benefit design were identified as core steps or components of compensation system design. Therefore, Chapters 2 to 6 discuss these five steps in detail, along with numerous tools and specific cases used in practice.
Chapter 7 explores various methods to enhance motivation during compensation system design and discusses two approaches to implementing the compensation system.
Chapter 8 focuses on the management of the compensation system, covering topics such as compensation surveys, compensation strategies, compensation budgets, compensation management systems, and compensation satisfaction surveys. Additionally, Chapter 8 provides several mature compensation management systems and compensation satisfaction surveys, hoping to offer valuable references for you.
The book aims to help enterprise managers gain a clear understanding of their company's compensation situation and design a scientific, rational, and efficient compensation system based on the steps and solution approaches introduced in the book.
