Publishing Date: 2003-07-01
Features: In recent years, there have been many publications of collections of ci poetry and selected ci poems from the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties. There are some discrepancies in the original texts among these different editions. This book adopts the commonly used versions, selecting from various sources and following the better ones, without focusing on a single author. Variants are also included without explanation. The annotations in the book are designed to be simple and clear, avoiding complex textual research to suit the needs of general readers. For the allusions in the works, apart from indicating their sources, only brief and concise interpretations are provided. Some are even explained directly using modern Chinese for clarity. This book selects 120 poets from the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, with 200 ci poems. It is difficult to fully reflect the landscape of the ci poetry scene over seven hundred years, but in the selection of poets and poems, considerations have been given to style and schools, striving to include representative, readable works that reflect the characteristics of the times from certain perspectives and possess high artistic quality. This approach may allow readers to gain a glimpse of the bigger picture, like tasting a small piece of a larger feast. Through these works, readers can see the significant achievements of poets and ci poetry from these three dynasties, as well as their high aesthetic and cognitive value.
