Features: These three volumes include the "New Curriculum Classical Chinese Reader," which was commissioned by Shanghai Education Publishing House and written by experienced education experts familiar with the significant reforms currently underway in the Ministry of Education. Based on relevant "standards" and practical considerations, they conducted thorough research to create a resource for teachers, students, and self-study across primary, junior, and senior high schools. I was eager to preview it and found it immensely beneficial. The selected texts broadly cover the finest classical Chinese pieces found in various textbooks. The annotations are concise, the introductions to authors and their backgrounds are accurate and concise, the explanations of sentences highlight key points, and the reading prompts guide deeper reflection.
The "New Curriculum Classical Chinese Reader" was edited by Xu Zhongyu, Qi Shenhua, and Fang Zhifan of East China Normal University. The editorial philosophy not only inherits the legacy of past "Classical Chinese Readers" and "Continued Classical Chinese Readers" but also incorporates new ideas from contemporary Chinese language teaching, integrating the essence of the "New Chinese Language Curriculum Standards." The "New Curriculum Classical Chinese Reader" is divided into "Primary School Volume," "Junior High School Volume," and "Senior High School Volume" based on the difficulty of the selected texts.
The "Senior High School Volume" includes 80 selected texts, with 40 designated by the "New Curriculum Standards" and the remaining 40 carefully chosen by the editors from renowned classical works, tailored to the level of junior high school students' classical Chinese proficiency. The manuscript is arranged chronologically by dynasty. The "New Curriculum Classical Chinese Reader" is designed to align with the cognitive patterns of senior high school students while effectively improving their classical Chinese skills.
