This series is compiled by the Editorial Department of Primary and Secondary School Subject Olympiads and is a research outcome of the Beijing Step-by-Step Quality Education Research Institute. Since its publication by the Olympic Press, it has stood out uniquely and is deeply loved by teachers, parents, and students. After significant revisions, re-editions, or complete rewrites, it has been renamed as "Golden Medal Olympiads" and "Golden Medal Schools" series and is now re-published and distributed by Jinghua Publishing House. On this occasion of the re-publication, sincere gratitude is extended to millions of readers across the country.
Subject Olympiads for Primary and Secondary Schools (abbreviated as "Subject Olympiads") are the most extensive, widely participated in, and influential subject competition activities for primary and secondary school students in China. Subject Olympiads are derived from and extended the concept of the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), the International Physics Olympiad (IPHO), the International Chemistry Olympiad (ICHO), and other internationally influential middle school subject competitions that attract millions of young students every year. The reason for such widespread attention lies in the strong innovation, flexibility, and comprehensiveness of Olympiads, as well as their focus on cultivating students' exploration skills and inspiring their innovative awareness—qualities that are precisely at the core of quality education. This is also the need for future development.
Based on years of careful study of this activity both domestically and internationally, as well as a large number of outstanding books in this category, the Editorial Department of Primary and Secondary School Subject Olympiads has invited outstanding educators dedicated to this field from across the country to compile and publish a series of books on mathematics, Chinese, English, physics, chemistry, biology, and information technology—comprising over 200 varieties. In terms of the variety, quantity, and quality of our Olympiad books, they are considered the most influential among peers both domestically and internationally and hold the greatest charm in the hearts of primary and secondary school teachers and students.
The purpose and characteristics of the "Golden Medal Olympiads" and "Golden Medal Schools" series are as follows:
1. High: Derived from textbooks but exceeding them. Derived from textbooks means referencing the newest [curriculum standards] of the Ministry of Education; exceeding textbooks means closely aligning with competition syllabi at all levels, ensuring comprehensive alignment in content, question types, and skill requirements, thereby fostering interest, developing intelligence, and enhancing abilities.
2. Accurate: Scientifically precise and structurally sound. Each book is designed with discipline-specific layers, scientifically organized, and follows a step-by-step approach, offering in-depth yet accessible analysis and comprehensive, detailed problem-solving methods.
3. Innovative: The questions are novel, unique, and engaging. They gather the essence of recent Olympiad, middle school, and high school exam questions from both domestically and internationally, representing the highest level of current Olympiads and reflecting new concepts in curriculum reform, as well as the latest ideas, methods, and trends in competition question-setting.
4. Refined: Carefully selected examples are challenging yet not obscure, flexible, and attainable. The focus is on generalizing from one example to many, bridging concepts; emphasizing multi-solution, multi-variable, and multi-question approaches to one problem; and prioritizing the training of thinking skills over rote memorization, making learning an interest and hobby.
5. Renowned: A gathering of distinguished teachers and a collection of famous competitions. The Editorial Department of Primary and Secondary School Subject Olympiads has invited renowned professors from prestigious universities, special-grade teachers, senior teachers, discipline leaders, and famous Olympic medal coaches to co-author these books.
