Features: The Compulsory Education Geography Curriculum Standards propose that quality-oriented education should be fully promoted. The curriculum design must focus on students' comprehensive development and lifelong learning, creating new approaches to geography learning, building open geography courses, making full use of modern information technology, cultivating students' geographical practice skills and inquiry awareness, stimulating their interest in learning geography and patriotism, and helping them establish correct concepts of population, environment, and sustainable development. This book is based on the 8th-grade upper-grade version of the People's Education Press experimental textbook "Geography" for compulsory education curriculum standards. Organized by chapters, each section includes columns such as Inquiry Objectives, Inquiry Guidance, and Happy Pack. Each chapter concludes with comprehensive review questions for the entire chapter. The book also includes mid-term and final examination questions at the end. The examination questions are divided into two parts: basic knowledge and inquiry-based learning. For the convenience of readers, all examination questions are accompanied by answers, and some multiple-choice questions also include explanations.
Inquiry Objectives: In the Inquiry Objectives section, the learning objectives, requirements, and expected skills for each section are concisely listed. This includes the methods and processes to be adopted, as well as the attitudes, values, and emotional responses expected.
Inquiry Guidance: This includes three sub-columns: Palace of Geography, Inquiry Activities, and Chat Room. The Palace of Geography summarizes and explains the key knowledge points for each section, provides a moderate number of example questions with solutions, and offers problem-solving strategies, answers, and analysis. Inquiry Activities are designed in the form of example questions, tailored to students' characteristics, and also include problem-solving strategies, answers, and analysis. The Chat Room features thematic discussions, exchanges, and explorations related to the section content.
Happy Pack: This includes sub-columns such as "Practice: Have You Learned?" (providing representative, typical, and flexible questions for students to practice and test themselves); "Think About It: How to Inquiry" (expanding students' thinking and helping them improve their ability to analyze and solve problems); "Try It: Experience These Activities" (cultivating students' participation habits and enhancing their hands-on and thinking skills); and "Read It: What Have You Gained?" (broadening horizons and sparking interest through reading).
This book strives to embody the spirit of the new curriculum standards, emphasizing inquiry and the development of students' potential. It aims to cultivate students' proactive participation, communication and collaboration skills, and the ability to analyze and solve problems. In terms of writing style, it seeks to be humanistic and approachable, providing readers with a sense of closeness. However, due to limitations in ability, there may be errors and shortcomings in the book. We sincerely request all teachers and students to point out and supplement these issues during use, and to promptly provide feedback on any problems and suggestions for revisions so that the book can be continuously improved.
