Features: This book aims to help self-studying candidates for the English major examination achieve an accurate and clear understanding of basic grammatical concepts and categories, gain a comprehensive and systematic grasp of the English grammar system, and apply grammatical knowledge to improve language practical skills. This book is used in conjunction with the textbook General English Grammar and has the following features in its specific layout:
1. The content of the book is based on the newest version of General English Grammar and the English Grammar Examination Syllabus, presented in the form of tests, accompanied by answers and necessary explanations. The order of the tests follows the chapters in the textbook in a progressive manner, and each exercise is marked with the corresponding chapter in the grammar textbook to facilitate candidates in learning, practicing, and consolidating knowledge simultaneously. The test formats include multiple-choice, error identification, fill-in-the-blank, error correction, and structural transformation, among others, to train candidates' exam-taking skills and enhance their understanding of grammatical rules. Based on the reference of past exam questions, some more challenging exercises have been appropriately added to increase candidates' interest in learning and adaptability to the exam.
2. Since most candidates for the English grammar exam have completed the four volumes of English Self-Tutorial, with a certain foundation in grammar, the tests in this book focus primarily on comprehensive training to improve candidates' flexible mastery of grammatical knowledge.
3. Attention is given to comparative differentiation, where related content in the textbook is organized together to guide candidates in making comparisons and distinctions, thereby achieving a clearer understanding of grammatical concepts.
4. The distribution of questions across chapters is not uniform. More exercises are allocated to key and difficult points in grammar, while fewer or none are assigned to less emphasized content (especially to those already covered with exercises in the textbook).
5. The book is divided into two parts: the first part is exercises, and the second part is reference answers and explanations, which address some shortcomings in the textbook. At the end of the book, there are three mock tests, with question formats and difficulty levels closely aligned with the Syllabus requirements. Each test is followed by answers, allowing candidates to self-assess their mastery of grammar.
