Features: This textbook is jointly developed by our press and Macmillan Education, a renowned English education publishing institution, based on the National English Curriculum Standards (Experimental Edition) formulated by the Ministry of Education. It is the first set of "one-stop" primary and secondary school English textbooks in China, developed after thorough research and academic discussions. The principal editor of this textbook is Professor Chen Lin from Beijing Foreign Studies University, and the associate editor is Associate Professor Lu Ziwen from Central China Normal University. The British editor, Printha Ellis, and contributor, Naomi Simmons, are both internationally renowned experts in English textbook development. Other distinguished contributors include and curriculum developers such as Wang Yanping and Lin Xiaojing.
This volume, New Standard English (for Grade 1 Starters), is designed for third-grade students in primary school. The book is divided into 11 modules, including one final review module. Each module follows the conventional structure of three units. Typically, the first unit introduces the language content for the module, while the second and third units provide task-based activities. These activities will include familiar rhymes or short poems from English-speaking countries (some of which may contain less common words that students are not required to use outside the context of the poems).
As students progress in grade level and improve their English proficiency, more complex grammar structures will be introduced. However, these grammatical points will still be handled through "invisible" semantic techniques, taught and mastered through task-based activities rather than theoretical explanations. Additionally, we have incorporated content related to science, geography, health, and general knowledge into the textbook to satisfy students' growing curiosity and broaden their horizons.
