Features: The Essays of Bacon collects 58 essays that cover all aspects of life and society, touching upon nearly everything people encounter in daily life. It is not a work written in one sitting but rather a meticulously crafted piece that underwent years of refinement, revision, and polishing by the author. The book went through three distinct stages, marked by three different editions published in 1597, 1612, and 1625. As an important figure in the history of human thought and a great thinker, Bacon holds a unique historical position. When people contemplate Bacon comprehensively, they naturally ask the question: Throughout his life, Bacon wrote significant philosophical works, yet in his philosophical writings, he focused not on the purely philosophical issues widely recognized by the academic community. As a result, some argue that Bacon cannot be ranked among the top philosophers in the history of modern philosophy. Others believe that while Bacon had an obsessive pursuit of scientific research and could even be said to have dedicated his entire career to scientific endeavors, he ultimately does not qualify as a true scientist in the conventional sense. Take education, for example. Bacon never served as a teacher in his life and had no practical experience in education. Yet, some Western educators argue that "his influence on educational thought surpasses that of any or all educators." Bacon did not write any specialized works on economics, yet astonishingly, his name frequently appears in works on the history of economic thought. Additionally, Bacon did not author any dedicated treatises on aesthetics, yet aestheticians repeatedly praise and celebrate him with genuine admiration in their historical works. And so on. What do these peculiar phenomena in the history of academic research signify? Indeed, whether viewed vertically or horizontally, we believe that in any academic field, it is difficult to call Bacon a leading figure. However, when considering the entire course of human civilization's development, Bacon is undeniably a leading figure in the realm of thought.
