Features: This revised edition is designed for university Russian majors and consists of six volumes. It takes three years to complete, starting from the first year (students with zero foundation can begin in the second semester of the first year). The purpose of this extensive reading textbook is to cultivate interest and habits in reading, consolidate learned language materials, enhance understanding of Russia and the Russian people, and broaden knowledge. This book is intended for use in the first semester, parallel to the comprehensive Russian textbook for the foundational stage, with one hour per week.
The extensive reading textbook is divided into two parts: Part 1 is the required reading material, consisting of 28 short passages; Part 2 is for optional reading, with 12 short passages. The themes of Part 2 include: in-class and out-of-class learning, language learning, rest, cultural and sports activities, the lives of Russian and foreign students, youth ideals, urban construction, moral education, etc. The passages are arranged from easy to difficult. Some themes in Part 2 are similar to those in Part 1, but their content and language are expanded and deepened to allow more capable students to expand their vocabulary and enrich their expressive means. The passages in Part 2 do not come with exercises, and the vocabulary is also listed separately.
The vocabulary and grammatical structures in the passages of this book are mostly based on what is learned in high school. Some common phrases in the passages are specially listed with Chinese translations for easy memorization. For famous figures or events mentioned in the book, the author provides brief introductions. The short passages in this book are selected from recent Russian textbooks or reading materials, with necessary modifications made to suit students' proficiency levels.
