Features: "Reading and Writing" is an intermediate and advanced English reading and writing textbook, an important part of the "Contemporary Graduate English" series. This textbook is divided into two volumes, suitable for two semesters of use. Each volume contains 10 units, with each unit including two texts, A and B. Text A is for intensive reading, while Text B is for extensive reading. Each unit generally requires 3-4 class hours, and teachers can adjust according to students' needs. The main purpose of this textbook is to cultivate graduate students' reading comprehension skills. Additionally, it focuses on training basic writing skills and providing guidance on practical writing. The teaching method of this textbook is recommended to include pre-class preview learning and preparation of questions, followed by teacher-led discussions in class where students should try to express themselves in English, resorting to bilingual communication if necessary. Teachers can provide targeted explanations on key and difficult points but should avoid the "chalk and talk" teaching method. At the same time, emphasis should be placed on cultivating students' ability to learn and think independently. The main features of this textbook are as follows:

Emphasis on key vocabulary with balanced reading and writing: Each text is followed by a glossary of new words, with Text A further listing words and phrases separately for easier learning and memorization, and to help students fully understand the usage of certain words. Additionally, each unit includes a Word Study section, which covers verb collocations and vocabulary tailored to different writing themes, highlighting the integration of reading and writing.
6. Practical writing: The writing section of this textbook emphasizes both basic skill training and practical application, effectively improving graduate students' English writing proficiency.
7. Diverse and appropriately challenging exercises: The exercises are varied, including multiple-choice questions, short-answer questions, discussion questions, and vocabulary exercises. There are also pre-reading questions (Lead-in questions) and review exercises for consolidation.
