Excerpt from the book: Meeting for the first thirteen days, the dashing Andy Lau and the acquaintance of Andy Lau was a coincidence. But such a coincidence remained so vivid in my memory. It was autumn in 1983. Miss W from the Taipei New Art City branch of the company saw that there were no new film projects for me to shoot yet and feared I would be bored, so she invited me out. She said, "There's a young man from Hong Kong named Andy Lau. He doesn't have any friends in Taiwan. Since you'll be going to Hong Kong to shoot films later, why don't we all hang out tomorrow and get to know each other?" The young man she mentioned had come to Taiwan to shoot a cameo in director Zhang Che's "Thirteen Assassins." At that time, his TV dramas and videotapes had already gained considerable popularity in Taiwan, though most people still had a vague impression of him. I didn't enjoy socializing and excused myself with other commitments, politely declining her invitation. However, she remained very serious and said, "Tomorrow is my birthday, and I'll be very disappointed if you don't come! I've also invited Tian × to have dinner with us in the evening. How about we go out together?" I hesitated for a moment and agreed.
The first time I met Andy Lau, it was already nearing evening. The lights of the hotel lobby blended with the dusk outside, creating a lazy and romantic atmosphere. "Maybe it'll be fun tonight," I suddenly felt. Just then, Andy Lau appeared before me, wearing blue jeans, a white shirt, and red plaid shoes. There was a sense of between us; I was also wearing jeans and a white shirt, but my black cloth shoes were paired with a red sweater on my shoulders. When he saw me with my long hair down, his eyes lit up as if discovering something new. The world seemed to freeze at that moment, with only the two of us facing each other. His deep eyes stared at me motionlessly. As we walked along, I felt his intense gaze, but when I caught him looking, he casually turned his head away. When I glanced at him again, he was like a magnet, staring at me once more. Our eyes met several times, but he quickly turned away as if caught doing something wrong. Yet his gaze at me was as if it could pierce through me. I had never been looked at like this by a man before. I found him playful and interesting, and I had no defenses against him.
· Skillfully taking me home
To celebrate Miss W's birthday, we chose the Hilton for dancing. The lively rhythm, swirling lights, and made me really enjoy disco. The moment I heard the music, I was like a dancing doll, eager to rush into the dance floor and sway to the beat, forgetting all my worries. During the intermission of the slow dance, I finally broke a sweat and returned to my seat. As soon as I sat down, the dancing doll's spring stopped, and I sat quietly without a word. Meanwhile, Andy Lau kept quietly and carefully adding fruits to my plate beside me. "You're very quiet," he said.
"Mm," I smiled but didn't say anything more. The music's rhythm flowed between us in silence. He didn't give up and brought up a topic, "I need to buy some things, but I don't know the way. How do I get there?"
"Your friends in Taipei can take you! If they're really busy, you can ask me. I can take you."
· Andy Lau asked for my phone number
"However, I don't know your phone number," his tone was polite yet firm. I had never had someone ask for my number in this way and was completely unprepared. Not knowing how to refuse, I gave him my number. In my mind at the time, Andy Lau seemed playful but was a down-to-earth, thoughtful young man. At that dance, he clearly noticed that one of the invited young gentlemen wanted to pursue me. I wasn't sure of his intentions, but the clever Andy Lau subtly held onto my red sweater, so wherever he went, I had to follow. That night, we had a great time. When it was time to leave, the young gentleman wanted to take us home, but Andy Lau was still holding my sweater. Andy Lau sat in the front seat, and I sat in the back. The entire way, the young gentleman kept pointing at buildings and saying, "This is my house, and this is my house." He kept pointing around, and before I knew it, the car had arrived at the Beverly Hills Hotel, where Andy Lau was staying. After getting out of the car, the young gentleman wanted to continue taking me home. Out of courtesy, I got out of the back seat to move to the front.
