Features: This book is a widely applicable, highly practical textbook with concise and clear content, rigorous and accurate concepts, strong scientific foundation, refined language, well-organized structure, and is highly favored by students and teachers. The third edition has undergone the following revisions:
1. The chapter on proteins has been expanded to include supersecondary structures, domains, and protein function classification, as well as enriched content on amino acid chemistry and physiological active peptides.
2. The chapter on nucleic acids has been completely rewritten to include factors influencing nucleic acid denaturation and renaturation, molecular hybridization, the structures and functions of various RNAs, and nucleic acid sequencing. The content on nucleotides, DNA conformation types, and supercoiled structures has been rewritten.
3. The content on the biological functions of carbohydrates, lipids, and biological membranes has been enriched.
4. The chapter on enzymes has been supplemented with new concepts such as ribozymes, antibody enzymes, enzyme engineering, and substrate transition states.
5. The section on "General Metabolism" has been added to the material metabolism part, combining it with "Bioenergetics" into one chapter. Before glycolysis, new content has been included on metabolic research methods, regulation of metabolic pathways, an overview of the catabolism and anabolism of individual amino acids, the malate shuttle, and the citrate shuttle.
6. The section on nucleic acid and protein biosynthesis has been expanded to include DNA, RNA, and protein biosynthesis in eukaryotes, PCR principles, the second genetic code system, and chaperones (auxiliary proteins) for polypeptide chain folding. The content on RNA splicing, reverse transcription, and ribosome structure has been rewritten.
7. The section on metabolic regulation has been expanded to include the tryptophan operon and gene expression regulation in eukaryotes.
8. Some unnecessary content has been removed, and new advancements in biochemistry have been added, reflecting the book's modernity, scientific rigor, systematicity, and conciseness.
This book is suitable for undergraduate students in comprehensive universities, normal universities, and agricultural and forestry institutions. It is also a valuable reference for teachers and readers with an interest in biochemistry.
