Features: Henan Province is located in central-eastern China and is named "Henan" because most of its territory is south of the Yellow River. It is situated in the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River and the southwestern part of the Huang-Huai-Hai Plain, between 31°23′ and 36°22′ north latitude and 110°21′ and 116°39′ east longitude. The total area of the province is approximately 167,000 square kilometers, with 11 million acres of arable land and a population of 95.55 million. It currently administers 18 prefecture-level cities, with Zhengzhou as its provincial capital. Henan boasts unique geographical and natural conditions, situated in both temperate and subtropical regions, combining the strengths of both the northern and southern climates. The climate is mild with distinct four seasons, abundant rainfall, fertile soil, and rich resources of flora and fauna and mineral deposits, making it suitable for industrial and agricultural development. With its special strategic position, abundant agricultural and sideline product resources, diverse mineral deposits, well-developed land transportation, glorious historical and cultural heritage, and rapidly developing economy, Henan has become one of China's most important provinces.
The terrain of Henan slopes from west to east, with the Taihang Mountains, Funiu Mountains, Tongbai Mountains, and Dabie Mountains surrounding the north, west, and south sides, interspersed with basins. The central and eastern parts are vast alluvial plains of the Huang-Huai-Hai Plain. Mountainous and hilly areas account for 44.3% of the province, while plains cover 55.7%. There are over 1,500 rivers in the province, belonging to the four major river systems of the Yellow River, Huai River, Hai River, and Yangtze River. Both surface and underground water resources are relatively abundant, especially along the eastern foothills of the Taihang Mountains, which are rich in underground water resources and are known as a large "underground water reservoir." Among the more than 150 mineral deposits discovered worldwide, Henan has 107 types, with preliminary proven reserves of over 80 types and 61 types already being developed. The reserves of 43 mineral deposits rank among the top 10 in the country. The province leads the nation in the reserves of molybdenum, blue asbestos, castable sandstone, natural soda, perlite, blue crystalline stone, and red columnar stone. It ranks second in the country for bauxite, natural oil stone, and cement-grade limestone. Additionally, the reserves of tungsten, cesium, coal, petroleum, natural gas, nickel, gold, and marble also rank among the top in the country.
