Features: On the occasion of the new edition of the "English Unified Examination Guidance Series for" being released, we would first like to express our heartfelt gratitude to our readers and customers for their long-term support and love for the series. The original series was published by the China Renmin University Press and is now published by the Inner Mongolia University Press. For this revision, "Comprehensive Tutorial" has replaced the original "Comprehensive Module," and "Mock Test Collection" has replaced the original "Mock Test Module," while the other modules remain unchanged. The new edition is written in line with the spirit of the new syllabus and incorporates the latest information from this year's exam for revision and adjustments. We believe that the new "English Unified Examination Guidance Series for" will still be a valuable resource for candidates and training course participants.
The "Writing and Translation Module" of the "English Unified Examination Guidance Series for" is compiled based on the examination syllabus determined by the Office of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council. It aims to help candidates master the necessary writing and translation skills and improve their exam-taking abilities. The book is divided into two parts: Writing and Translation.
The Writing section provides targeted explanations and exercises based on the exam formats and common weaknesses of candidates in writing. The materials for language and skill-related issues in writing are mainly selected from part-time English preparatory courses for working professionals. Most of the short passages used, including model answers and examples, are also from these preparatory courses. These passages have been revised to be more aligned with the content and language of the exam, making them more suitable for candidates to imitate and practice. Additionally, the chapters of the book are structured based on the relevant provisions of the exam syllabus, making it more targeted and practical.
A certain number of writing exercises are included in the Writing section, which cover a broad range of topics and have practical significance. The reference answers for all writing exercises are provided at the end of the book for candidates to compare and check after completing them independently.
The Translation section focuses on two main formats: Chinese-to-English single-sentence translation and Chinese-to-English short passage translation, in line with the requirements of the new exam syllabus. The single-sentence translation section starts with grammar, emphasizing the training and practice of sentence structures and word choices. Ten sets of mock Chinese-to-English single-sentence translation exercises are provided, along with reference answers. The Chinese-to-English short passage translation section covers various topics such as education, social culture, industry, and economics, aiming to help candidates quickly familiarize themselves with the vocabulary and expressions related to specific fields and expose them to different types and themes of translation materials, thereby better preparing them for this section.
During the compilation of this book, the following aspects were taken into consideration:
(1) The difficulty level and topic selection of the book strictly adhere to the requirements of the exam syllabus. Vocabulary is strictly controlled within the list specified in the exam syllabus. In writing and translation exercises, if there are obscure or difficult words, English or Chinese annotations are generally provided. The difficulty and length of writing and translation exercises are as consistent as possible with the exam syllabus.
(2) The selected materials are designed to be distinctive, emphasizing targeting and practicality. The materials are mainly sourced from recent years' exam books, including TOEFL, FIRST CERTIFICATE, and various textbooks, magazines, and newspapers. The writing and translation materials are selected from preparatory courses.
(3) In addition to providing a large number of writing and translation examples and exercises, the book also focuses on offering effective methods and techniques for writing and translation to help candidates improve these skills more quickly.
(4) The book emphasizes the standardization of language and the coherence of content. In both the writing and translation sections, the book considers the general applicability and imitability of vocabulary, grammar, and exercises. The answers and model answers are made as clear and easy to understand as possible, facilitating memorization and imitation.
This book is not only suitable for working professionals taking the English unified examination but also for candidates preparing for the College English Test Band 4/6 and postgraduate entrance exams.
