A Study in Scarlet was rejected multiple times before being published and became famous as The Sign of Four. In 1891, he abandoned medicine for literature, becoming a detective novelist. His representative works include The Boscombe Valley Mystery, The Red-Headed League, and The Five Orange Pips. In 1894, he decided to stop writing detective novels, allowing Holmes to die in a raging river in The Final Problem. However, his readers were furious and protested. Conan Doyle was forced to bring Holmes back to life in The Hound of the Baskervilles and write other detective novels such as The Return of Sherlock Holmes and The Valley of Fear. The character of Holmes he created has become a globally renowned figure. Holmes' office has also become a tourist attraction. His works are captivating with logical reasoning, dramatic structures, vivid characters, and reflections of British society at the time. For his artistic achievements, the renowned British novelist W. Somerset Maugham once said, "Compared to Arthur Conan Doyle's The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, no detective novel has ever enjoyed such great fame." Conan Doyle is known as the "Father of British Detective Fiction" and is one of the world's best-selling authors.
