Features: The beauty of prose and the elegance of illustrations complement each other, making it both a masterpiece for appreciation and a premium choice for collection. Chinese prose has a long and rich history. Over thousands of years of prose creation, whether expressing emotions, stating intentions, depicting scenes, or remembering people, it has reflected the changes of the times and the thoughts and feelings of people. In the new literature of the 20th century, these fine traditions of Chinese prose were not only fully inherited but also continuously innovated and developed. To showcase the achievements of Chinese prose creation since the 20th century, we edited and published the "Treasures of Chinese Prose" in the early days of the new century, totaling thirty volumes. Five years have passed, and on this basis, we have meticulously compiled this "Illustrated Treasures of Chinese Prose," consisting of sixteen volumes. Through careful selection once again, this series not only adds over 50,000 new words to each volume but also accompanies them with precious photographs reflecting the author's life journey. Truly, the beauty of prose and the elegance of illustrations complement each other, making it both a masterpiece for appreciation and a premium choice for collection.
Liang Shiqiu's prose works are rich in content, diverse in themes, ingeniously crafted, and exquisitely written. His language is humorous, his depth profound, and his style tranquil, fully demonstrating his literary prowess and rich life experiences. From one perspective, his works reflect the author's thoughts and feelings and his creative style. Born on January 1, 1903, in Beijing, Liang Shiqiu was originally from Hang County, Zhejiang (now Yuhang). In 1923, he graduated from Tsinghua University and went abroad to study English and British literature. Upon returning to China in 1926, he taught at several universities in the north and south. In the 1930s, he became a key member of the famous literary group "The Crescent Society." In 1938, he moved to Sichuan and resided in Beibei, Chongqing. In 1948, he went to Shanghai, then Guangzhou, and finally Taiwan, where he remained until his death on November 11, 1987. As a typical modern free intellectual in China, Liang Shiqiu "wrote for self-entertainment in his long days, jotting down thoughts as they came, without regard for structure." He left behind an unparalleled legacy, including works such as "Winter Night Critiques of Grass," "The Art of Insulting," "Discipline of Literature," "Collected Prejudices," "Critical Essays on Literature," "My Little Studio," "On Xu Zhimo," "Eight Years at Tsinghua," "Miscellaneous Writings from Autumn Studio," "Reminiscences of Autumn Studio," "Dreams of Huayuan Garden," "Collected Essays," "Liang Shiqiu's Notes," "The White Cat Prince and Other Stories," "My Little Studio Talks About Eating," "History of English Literature," and the Chinese translation of "The Complete Works of Shakespeare." His eldest daughter, Ms. Liang Wenqian, once told me: "My father's works have been published in numerous versions, both large and small, and have remained bestsellers for a long time. Among them, 'My Little Studio' has over 300 versions both in China and abroad, which fully demonstrates the readers' love for his works."
