Features: Political theory courses are required public courses in adult higher education. Adult higher education has the characteristics of diverse student sources, a wide age range, varying levels of knowledge foundation, and different life experiences. Therefore, according to the inherent laws of adult higher education, compiling teaching materials that meet teaching requirements while reflecting the characteristics of adult education is an important measure to reduce the difficulty of teaching in adult higher education and improve the quality of education. To implement the spirit of the "Opinions of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council on Strengthening and Improving the Work of Ideological and Political Education of College Students," and to give full play to the main role of college ideological and political theory courses in ideological and political education for college students, we organized some teachers engaged in teaching Marxist theory and ideological and political theory to compile this "Brief Course in Political Theory" as a textbook for political theory courses in adult higher education for adult education teaching. This "Course" adheres to equipping adult college students with Marxism-Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought, Deng Xiaoping Theory, and the "Three Represents" important thought, striving to conduct in-depth education on the basic principles of Marxism and the Party's basic theories, basic lines, basic programs, and basic experience for adult college students. It focuses on helping adult college students correctly understand the laws of social development, the future and destiny of the country, and their social responsibilities, guiding and assisting them in mastering the stance, viewpoint, and methods of Marxism, and establishing a correct worldview, life philosophy, and values. It also establishes a common ideal and firm belief in taking the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics under the leadership of the Communist Party of China to achieve the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. It adheres to the principle of linking theory with practice and "learning Marxism-Leninism should be concise and practical," striving to comprehensively reflect the reality of China and the development of the times, and to achieve closeness to reality, life, and students, focusing on improving the targeting, effectiveness, attractiveness, and infectiveness of ideological and political education, and enhancing teaching effectiveness. It adheres to the combination of inheriting fine traditions and improving innovation, striving to achieve both a serious summary and inheritance of the experience of ideological and political theory teaching in colleges since the founding of the country and the achievements of recent teaching reforms, while starting from the current teaching reality of adult higher education in colleges, reflecting the unity of continuity and innovation in teaching content. It adheres to the principle of writing characteristics that meet teaching requirements while reflecting the characteristics of adult education, striving to achieve scientific formats, reasonable structures, correct viewpoints, accurate concepts, concise content, strong logic, thorough analysis, and clear conclusions, making it both a guide for teachers' lectures and a summary for students' learning.
