1. The character selection in this manual is primarily based on the "Total Table of Simplified Characters" compiled and printed by the Chinese Language Commission in 1964, and the "Table for the Rectification of Variant Characters" issued by the Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China and the Chinese Language Commission in 1955. Adjustments are made according to the revised "Total Table of Simplified Characters" re-published in 1986 and the "General Table of Modern Chinese Characters" issued by the National Language and Character Working Committee and the State Press and Publication Administration in 1988.
2. The manual includes traditional characters, including those that have been officially simplified.
3. Simplified characters derived from the simplified components in the "Total Table of Simplified Characters," which do not have variant forms or variant pronunciations, are not included in this table.
4. The 26 characters simplified according to the revised "Total Table of Simplified Characters" in 1986, as listed in the "General Table of Modern Chinese Characters" in 1988, are included in this manual.
5. The characters in the manual are arranged in order of the number of strokes in the traditional form. For characters with the same number of strokes, they are arranged in the order of stroke forms in two strokes. Characters with the same radicals are grouped together. Traditional characters are marked with ( ), and variant characters are marked with [].
6. The character forms are based on the "General Table of Modern Chinese Characters."
