"The Drunken Scholar's Chat" recorded some independent legends about the Water Margin heroes, and "Remnants of the Great Song in Xuanhe" linked many Water Margin stories together, becoming very close to a full-length novel. During the Yuan Dynasty, numerous Water Margin plays emerged, with a group of heroes from Liangshan appearing as stage characters. "Water Margin" was born from the long-term of the story of Song Jiang's uprising in the, absorbing the nourishment of folk literature.
