Darwin was born on February 12, 1808, in the small town of Shrewsbury, England. From a young age, Darwin loved nature and self-studied numerous books on natural sciences. In 1825, he entered the University of Edinburgh in Scotland to study medicine. In 1831, the Beagle set sail, beginning a global voyage that had a profound impact on Darwin's life. In 1836, Darwin concluded his long global journey and returned to his homeland. In 1839, Darwin married his cousin Emma Wedgwood. In 1841, the book The Structure and Distribution of Coral Reefs was published. In 1853, Darwin was awarded the Royal Society's Honorary Medal in London. In 1859, the book On the Origin of Species was published. In 1864, he was awarded the highest honor in the British scientific community—the Royal Society's Copley Medal. In 1870, the book The Descent of Man was published. In 1878, Darwin became a corresponding member of the Botanical Department of the French Academy of Sciences. On April 19, 1882, this great scientist passed away due to illness. His remains were buried beside Isaac Newton's grave as a sign of respect for this scientist.
