Features: This research is guided by the theory of science education development. Through a summary of the experience in the construction of Phase 1 and Phase 2 exhibitions at the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum, as well as a comparative study of museums and science centers both domestically and internationally, it focuses on analyzing the main characteristics of comprehensive science museums and the various important components of their construction process. From traditional museums that primarily collect, research, and exhibit, to comprehensive science centers that combine educational and leisure functions, all types of exhibition venues can be seen as products of their time—they were born out of the needs of the era and have evolved alongside its development. Comprehensive science museums are the science centers of the era of knowledge explosion. Their breakthrough lies in: no longer limiting content design to the basic principles of mathematics, physics, and chemistry, nor to a subject-centered model; and combining science popularization education with leisure tourism functions to meet the demands of the experience economy. Comprehensive science museums primarily focus on experiential science education, and their development is inevitably closely related to the development of science popularization education.
