We have preserved the strengths of the original popular edition of Thousand Poems while striving to give it a new look suited to our time. We pay attention to selecting works that are profound in meaning, healthy in tone, expansive in imagery, vivid in depiction, and widely acclaimed. The selection of poems remains primarily focused on the regulated verse of the Tang and Song dynasties, but is not limited to them. In terms of era, it includes works from the Han, Wei, and Six Dynasties, as well as from the Yuan, Ming, Qing dynasties up to the modern period. In terms of genre, it includes five-and-seven-character ancient poems. A total of 152 poems have been selected. To facilitate children's gradual learning, the poems are arranged in the order of five-character quatrains, seven-character quatrains, five-character regulated verse, seven-character regulated verse, five-character ancient poems, and seven-character ancient poems, with works of the same genre arranged chronologically by the poets' time periods. The annotations are concise, including brief author introductions, explanations of titles, interpretations of characters and idioms, as well as necessary summaries and comments. Additionally, illustrations are included to enhance readers' interest.
