Features: This book is a specialized monograph on rubber processing and compounding. It covers systematic and comprehensive content, including both technical theories and practical operational methods. The theoretical content emphasizes the integration with fundamental theories such as basic chemistry, physics, and polymer physical chemistry. The introduction of practical operational methods focuses on the organic combination with production practices, employing a narrative approach supplemented by typical examples to strengthen the ability to guide practical formula design and determine processing methods. The content of the book is divided into three main parts.
Part 1 focuses on raw materials, systematically discussing the main varieties, principles, and applications of basic raw materials such as natural rubber, vulcanization systems, reinforcement and filling systems, aging and protection systems, plasticizing systems, special compounding systems, and blending and modification systems. It provides a general introduction to special raw materials such as foaming, adhesion, flame retardancy, coloring, antistatic, and conductive materials. It briefly introduces rubber reinforcement materials—frame materials, including the performance characteristics of various fibers commonly used and different types of woven textiles such as cord fabric, canvas, ropes, and metal skeletons. Through this section, readers will understand why these compounding systems are used and how they are applied.
Part 2 focuses on explaining the relationship between the composition of rubber formulations and the process, physical, and usage properties of rubber compounds, enabling readers to reasonably set rubber compound formulations based on performance requirements.
Part 3 systematically and comprehensively explains the principles, methods, and typical examples of four rubber processing processes: mixing, calendering, extrusion, and vulcanization. It helps readers understand how to combine the designed formulations and selected frame materials through different processing methods to produce qualified rubber products.
This book is suitable for students majoring in polymer materials and rubber professionals.
