Features: The book is organized into the four divisions of Confucian classics, history, philosophy, and belles-lettres, selecting the essence of the original texts to enable readers to grasp the four treasures of the library in the least amount of time and effort. It was established in the 38th year of the Qianlong reign (1773) and completed after ten years. It includes 3,503 books and 79,337 volumes, divided into the four divisions, hence the name "Four Treasures of the Library." The entire work was copied into seven sets and stored in seven pavilions: Wenyuan, Wenyan, Wenjin, Wenzong, Wenhuai, Wensu, and Wenlan. Wenzong and Wenhuai were destroyed in wars; Wenyan was burned by the Anglo-French; and many of the volumes in Wenlan were lost, but were later supplemented through transcription. This book is based on the restored version of the Wenyuan Pavilion, selecting its essence, meticulously proofread by experts and scholars, with detailed annotations on difficult terms, removing the obstacles for modern readers in reading ancient texts.
