Features: To strengthen the foundational research on the current situation of Vietnam, provide accurate, comprehensive, and systematic materials for researchers, educators, practitioners, and individuals interested in Vietnam-related issues, the Institute of Southeast Asia at the Guangxi Academy of Social Sciences has collaborated with relevant domestic and international organizations and entities. Since 2000, renowned experts and scholars have been organized to annually compile the Vietnam Country Report. The previously published Vietnam Country Report 2000, Vietnam Country Report 2001, and Vietnam Country Report 2002 have served as academic-level reference tools with relatively accurate and comprehensive data, becoming important sources for understanding Vietnam's new developments both domestically and internationally and have been well-received by readers. Starting in 2005, the Vietnam Country Report will be published simultaneously in Chinese and English in China and Singapore. The English edition will be published and distributed by the Institute of Southeast Asia, Singapore.
This Report is an informative and reference tool. It is divided into three parts. Part 1 (Upper Section) provides a brief introduction to basic knowledge about Vietnam; Part 2 (Middle Section) is the Development Report of Vietnam 2004-2005, which includes comprehensive reports and analytical thematic reports on the development status of various industries and fields in Vietnam; Part 3 (Lower Section) covers major events in Vietnam and China-Vietnam relations from 2003-2004, important documents, and socio-economic statistical data of Vietnam. The entire report offers a comprehensive overview of Vietnam's natural resources, population, natural landscapes, as well as its current political, economic, military, cultural-educational, foreign political, and economic trade relations in recent years, providing significant reference value for readers studying and concerned about Vietnam-related issues.
The entire report was organized and compiled by Gu Xiaosong, with partial editorial and proofreading work handled by Ma Jin'an and Huang Weisheng. Chen Hongsheng was responsible for the English translation of the preface and table of contents. We sincerely thank the leadership of the Guangxi Academy of Social Sciences for their attention and support to this project, which made the completion and publication of this book possible. Due to our limited capabilities, there may inevitably be errors and shortcomings, and we welcome criticism and suggestions from readers and experts. We will strive to make the next Vietnam Country Report even better.
