[Book Description] The birth of a baby brings so much joy to a family, but new parents often know little about how to take care of a tiny infant. When parents first start living with their baby, many unexpected things can happen. Especially for babies aged 0-3, they cannot communicate effectively with the outside world through language. Therefore, when problems arise, new parents may feel helpless. For example, what should they do if their baby gets sick? What should they do if their baby cries? After the baby turns 4, parents begin to worry about their child's quality of education. For instance, how can they make their baby smarter? How can they help their baby develop better habits? This book covers all the essential knowledge and common issues that parents need to understand and master from birth to age 6, including feeding, education, and potential problems.
A baby with a small appetite may not eat well in the summer and fail to gain weight. If the baby is in good spirits, there is no need to worry. They will likely start eating again when the weather cools down. Do not treat them as patients or give them injections or medicine. In autumn, when the weather suddenly turns cold, a baby who is in good spirits and not feverish may sometimes cough severely. There may be phlegm in their chest, and they may make snoring sounds. Pay close attention to this. In winter, frequent outdoor activities can lead to frostbite. At this age, many babies are reluctant to wear socks and gloves. However, do not avoid outdoor exercise just because of the risk of frostbite. On days when it is not too cold and the sun is shining, take the baby outside for about 5 minutes to breathe fresh air.
3. Creating Play Spaces
(1) Indoors
During this period, most of a baby's life revolves around playing. Small babies are naturally active and live through play. As they play happily, they develop their talents. For them, the meaning of play is not the game itself but the opportunity to exercise their abilities and learn through exploration. Play is a rehearsal and preparation for their future life, and parents must value their play. First, carefully observe which toys the baby is most interested in, and then develop games based on their preferences. At this stage, almost all babies enjoy toys that require full-body movement because they want to develop their motor skills. They love swings, slides, toy carts, rubber balls, etc. To stimulate their imagination, you can use building blocks to create various shapes. Give them crayons or magic ink to draw on large paper. When they play with dolls, animals, toy cars, toy trains, and jet planes, they begin to build their dream world. Let them look at picture books, and have their parents read to them, which can help them develop their dream world. Before they are 18 months old, they cannot yet understand overly complex stories. Tell them stories with only three scenes, otherwise, it will be difficult for them to follow. Babies who love cars are only interested in car-themed picture books. Babies who love animals do not like other types of picture books. That's perfectly fine—people don't need to memorize encyclopedias. Babies who love music can remember songs after watching TV or listening to the radio. For these babies, you can let them listen to fairy tale records. However, constantly letting them listen to the radio is not advisable, as it may weaken their attention to various sounds. Babies who enjoy making sounds by hitting things can be given small drums or xylophones to play. The reason for giving them what they like and play equipment is to help them learn through enthusiasm and persistent play.
(2) Outdoors
Babies between 1 and 2 years old spend most of their time eating, sleeping, and playing. Children are different from adults—play is their learning, their work, and even their life. Through play, their physical functions develop, they gain knowledge, enhance their social awareness, and enrich their emotions. After the age of 1, babies enjoy playing outdoors as they gradually explore the world. From this perspective, it is best to take babies to parks, squares, playgrounds, and other places where children play frequently. Taking them for a walk outdoors will make them very happy, and even watching other children play will bring them joy. Active babies around 18 months may want to join older children in playing, but the older children may find them a nuisance. However, such situations can help babies truly understand the need to protect and restrain themselves.
In the eyes of adults, playing in the mud or with water is purely childish, and washing dirty clothes afterward can be tiring. But for babies, such experiences are very important. Places with sand, mud, and water are the most favorite play areas for babies. Although some babies may occasionally eat sand or even small stones, they will soon realize that it is neither sweet nor tasty and will stop doing so. If you prohibit them from doing this and that from the start, they will feel frustrated and bored. Let them play freely outdoors, and they will gain various new experiences through contact with rich stimuli, which will also help stabilize their emotions.
