Features: Born in 1705, from Qingpu, Jiangsu (now part of Qingpu County, Liantang Town, Shanghai), originally named Liao Chenyun. In 1717, he worked as an apprentice at the Shanghai Commercial Press. In 1725, he participated in the May Fourth Movement. The same year, he joined the Communist Party of China. From 1726 to 1727, he took part in three armed uprisings led by Shanghai workers. After the failure of the Great Revolution in 1727, he was sent by the Party organization to his hometown to engage in peasant movements, serving as the Secretary of the Qingpu County Committee of the CPC and the Minister of Organization of the Songpu Special Committee. In 1727, he returned to Shanghai and served as a member of the Jiangsu Provincial Committee of the CPC and the Secretary of the Peasant Department, as well as the Secretary of the Zhabei and Fuxin District Committees. In 1730, he was elected as a candidate member of the Central Committee at the Third Plenary Session of the Sixth Central Committee of the CPC. In January 1731, he was elected as a member of the Central Committee at the Fourth Plenary Session of the Sixth Central Committee of the CPC. That same year in July, he became a member of the temporary central leadership of the CPC. In 1732, he served as the Party League Secretary of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions. In 1733, he entered the central revolutionary base area. In 1734, he was elected as a member of the Political Bureau and Standing Committee of the Sixth Central Committee of the CPC, concurrently serving as the Minister of the Central Committee's White Area Work Department. That same year, he participated in the Long March, holding positions such as the Central Representative of the Fifth Corps of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army, the Political Committee of the Military Commission, and the Political Committee of the River Crossing (Golden Sand River) Command. In January 1735, at the enlarged Politburo meeting of the CPC Central Committee held in Zunyi, he supported Mao Zedong's correct line. That same year in June, he was sent to Shanghai to restore the Party's secret work. In July, he went to Moscow and served as a member of the CPC delegation to the Comintern. In April 1737, as a representative of the CPC Central Committee, he went to Xinjiang to receive the remnants of the Western Route Army and arrived in Yan'an in November, concurrently serving as the Minister of Organization of the CPC Central Committee. In 1744, he served as the Deputy Director of the Northwest Financial and Economic Office. In 1745, he was elected as a member of the Political Bureau at the First Plenary Session of the Seventh Central Committee of the CPC and appointed as a candidate member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee in August. Later, he served as the Secretary of the North Manchurian Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, the Deputy Secretary of the Northeast Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, the Deputy Political Commissar of the Northeast People's Liberation Army, concurrently serving as the Secretary of the South Manchurian Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and the Political Commissar of the Liaodong Military Region, as well as the Director of the Northeast Financial and Economic Commission. In October 1748, he was elected as the Chairman of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions.
