History of Chinese Newspapers and Magazines

Features: Liang Qichao once said, "Newspapers and journals are the ears, tongues, mirrors, kings, and lights of the nation, as well as the food of the present and the guide of the future." It is rare to find books that combine newspapers and journals while catering to both refined and popular tastes. This book systematically introduces the history of Chinese newspapers and journals and is accompanied by a wealth of images, many of which are rarely seen. Although the author frequently deals with newspapers and journals, combining them into a popular yet serious work for readers interested in Chinese media knowledge proved to be a challenging task. The materials involved are extensive, and the founding, publication cycles, name changes, and closures of many newspapers and journals lack records or are subject to conflicting accounts. Additionally, most newspapers and journals before the Republican era are in poor condition, making it difficult to find ideal images. Despite the author's efforts, there may still be shortcomings or errors. Here, the author respectfully requests the readers' understanding and corrections.
In addition to original newspapers, journals, and published materials from the late Qing and Republican periods, such as Liang Qichao's Collected Works of Yinbing Studio, Gao Gongzhen's History of Chinese Journalism, the large-scale commemorative special issue of Shanghai Daily for its 50th anniversary, The Past Half Century, and the Shanghai Annual, there are also numerous post-1949 publications, such as Zhang Jinglu's Sources of Modern Chinese Publishing, Sources of Contemporary Chinese Publishing, and Sources of Chinese Publishing, Ding Shouhe's Introduction to Journals During the Xinhai Revolution Period, the Research Office of the Translation and Compilation Bureau of the Works of Marx, Engels, Lenin, and Stalin's Central Committee's Introduction to Journals During the May Fourth Movement Period, Fang Hanqi's History of Modern Chinese Newspapers and Journals, and others. These are not all listed here, and the author apologizes for any oversight.
