Features: Among the senior generals of our army, Huang Kecheng was renowned for his integrity and willingness to speak the truth. During the Great Revolution, he progressed from a poor rural youth to a progressive student, once boldly marching in the ranks of the National Revolutionary Army and later traveling through harsh conditions in search of the Communist Party. In the Red Army period, he rose from the party representative of a guerrilla unit to the political commissar of a vanguard division during the Long March, praised by Peng Dehuai for his wisdom and courage, yet persecuted for opposing "Leftist" adventurism and the expansion of the "Rectification Campaign." During the War of Resistance against Japan, he served as the commander of the fifth corps of the Eighth Route Army and later as the commander of the third division of the New Fourth Army, leading troops to sweep across Jiangsu and Anhui, establishing the northern Jiangsu base area as a "Little Yan'an," and firmly opposing Kang Sheng and Rao Shushi's "Rescue Movement." In the Liberation War period, he served as the deputy commander of the Northeast Military Region and the chief of logistics, as well as the secretary of the Jilin-Jiangsu-Liaoning Bureau of the CCP. He foresightedly proposed seizing Northeast China and led troops on a thousands-of-miles-long expedition to establish a base area, providing robust logistical support for the army. After the founding of the People's Republic, he served as the mayor of Tianjin, the party secretary of Hunan Province, the chief of logistics of the People's Liberation Army, the chief of the General Staff, and the secretary of the Central Military Commission of the CCP. He devoted himself to the construction of the state and the development of the armed forces. During the Lushan Conference and the Cultural Revolution, he was imprisoned and severely tortured. After the Cultural Revolution, he was exonerated and returned to public service, serving as the acting secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the CCP. He personally participated in the leadership of the trials against the counter-revolutionary groups led by Lin Biao and Jiang Qing, as well as the exonerations of Liu Shaoqi and Peng Dehuai. When a few individuals slandered Mao Zedong and Mao Zedong Thought, he firmly raised the banner of defending Mao Zedong Thought. With decades of meritorious service and decades of trials and tribulations, this book portrays Huang Kecheng's highly individual life journey with a solemn pen, highlighting the noble character and broad-mindedness of a true communist.
