Features: On the picturesque shores of Lake Ontario, in a newly built luxury apartment, the characters of the story are active. These Chinese immigrants from different places who have come to North America each have their own worries and life stories: the lost dream of a physician, the longing for love in a woman's heart, the great humiliation of being abandoned by a wife, the unresolved heartache of a Taiwanese woman who grew up in Canada and despises racial discrimination, the hardships and joys of a fugitive official's son, and the bittersweet life of a university teacher who immigrated hastily. The novel's artistic conception is lofty, the writing is elegant, the character portrayal is strong, and the emotional depiction is also lingering and exquisite. It is a rare masterpiece depicting the lives of overseas Chinese in recent years. The background of Yu Xi, a Canadian-Chinese writer, is the apartment on the shores of Lake Ontario. In this newly built luxurious apartment by the shores of Lake Ontario, six out of ten residents are from China. Shortly after moving in, the residents face an unexpected conflict that disrupts their seemingly peaceful lives: the management committee plans to increase the maintenance fee by 70%. In response to the challenge, each person adopts a different approach, revealing their unique personality traits and attitudes towards life. In the 1980s, overseas-themed works were extremely popular. When the heavy gates of the country gradually opened, the excitement of the outside world and its challenges had deeply moved the hearts of the Chinese people. Literary works leaped over the ladder of aesthetics and directly served as a medium for providing information. However, as time passed through the tunnel of the century and a new dawn spread globally, the Chinese suddenly realized that opportunities were also shining beneath their feet. At the same time, literature faced the challenge of diversification. Overseas-themed works began to taste the taste of neglect. Under such circumstances, "The Lake Shore" stepped into the limelight. Yu Xi's narrative, with its experienced and slightly antique touch, tells stories across the ocean in such a tone. The hidden cultural connotations in the story then gain a tangible sense. Interestingly, to achieve realism in expression, Yu Xi had the Western characters in the novel speak directly in English, and even had his daughter, who attended the "Gifted Program" in a high school in Toronto, polish the text for him. The narrative style suggests Yu Xi's decoding of Sino-Western cultures. Residents of different races live in different social systems, cultural environments, and linguistic settings, with very significant differences in psychology and concepts. The stories triggered by these differences, even for anthropology, hold great significance.
