Features: Faust is the late work of the genius poet Goethe, whom Engels called "a genius poet," which consumed nearly 60 years of Goethe's life and is a summary of his life's thoughts and the crystallization of his artistic exploration. It is ranked alongside The Odyssey, Dante's The Divine Comedy, and Shakespeare's Hamlet as one of the "Four Great Masterpieces of European Literature." During his exile, Lenin carried only two literary works, one of which was Faust. Goethe was Germany's greatest poet, writer, and thinker, and one of the most important writers in Germany and Europe from the mid-18th century to the early 19th century, often paired with Schiller as the "Twin Gems of 19th-Century German Literature." In 1985, Life magazine conducted a survey among millions of readers to vote for the "Best Books of All Time," and Faust ranked 13th. It was also included in the "100 World Classics" recommended by The American Guide to Good Reading.
