Features: He belongs more to our era than to the Victorian era. Now, far away from those scandals, time has certainly affirmed his excellent writings. He quietly comes before us, outstanding and tall, speaking fables and philosophies, laughing and crying, so eloquent, so witty and unconventional, so irrefutable. —Richard Ellmann
Millennium Literature has produced authors far more complex or imaginative than Oscar Wilde, but none are more charming. The moral trial of the British poet Oscar Wilde has raged for two centuries. The author of this book has collected various archival documents, reports, and materials from the West on this issue, taking leisure to organize them and recreate the occurrence and trial process of this case of great significance to cultural and social history. Whether a book is moral or immoral is not the issue; whether it is well-written or poorly written is the only thing that matters. Artists are never pathological; artists can express everything. In fact, the mirror of art reflects the one looking in the mirror, not life. — Oscar Wilde
The trial of Wilde was, in fact, just one performance in the drama of his life, similar to the performances of his plays A Woman of No Importance and The Importance of Being Earnest. During this performance, the actors varied in appearance, cultivation, and speech, but they all knew what roles they were playing and tried their best to show the side they thought was most brilliant and most likely to win the audience's applause. Among them, the best actor was undoubtedly Wilde.
