Baishi Laoren's Autobiography: Illustrated Treasure Edition

Author: Qi Baishi
Publisher:
Publication Date: 2000-07-01
Features: This is a great autobiography, and the reason is its simplicity and authenticity, filled with the author's local flavor. I often feel that moving literature is sincere literature. It does not hide, does not play with words, speaks with an earnest heart about simple facts—how can it not move people? When Qi Baishi was seventy-one years old, he asked Wujiang Jin Songcen to write his biography. He narrated his life, which was recorded by his disciple Zhang Cixi and sent to Jin's family as material for the biography. Due to the passage of time and worldly changes, hely wrote and paused again. By the time Qi Baishi was in his later years, his physical strength gradually declined, making it difficult for him to sit for long periods, and he repeatedly resumed andly paused. Therefore, his self-narration only went up to 1948, when Qi Baishi was eighty-eight. Now, after consulting with Qi Liangchi, the son of the late Baishi, over one hundred and eighty of Baishi's paintings have been selected and published alongside the "Self-Narration." This "Self-Narration" was originally planned when Baishi was seventy-one, with the intention of having Wujiang Jin Songcen write his biography. Baishi himself narrated his life, which was recorded by his disciple Zhang Cixi and given to Jin as basic material for the biography. However, due to the passage of time and worldly changes, Baishily wrote and paused, and by his later years, his physical strength declined, making it difficult for him to continue, so this "Self-Narration" only goes up to 1948, when Qi Baishi was eighty-eight.
