To objectively and truthfully reflect the physical and psychological harm the Nanjing Massacre caused to the Chinese people, Matsuo Kazuko compiled the oral testimonies collected over four years into Nanjing War · The Soul of the Divided Victims. She said, "One must have the courage to admit and correct mistakes." Regarding past aggressive wars, Japan should have the courage to admit and reflect. She stated, "There will be no second chance to rescue history, and her investigation will continue." Matsuo Kazuko introduced that the investigation and collection of testimonies from perpetrators and victims in both China and Japan were almost carried out simultaneously. Since October 1997, she spent over four years setting up a "Nanjing Massacre Information Hotline" in six cities in Japan, including Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, and Hiroshima. During 1999 to 2002, Matsuo Kazuko repeatedly traveled to China to collect testimonies. In August 2004, the Memorial Hall of the Victims in Nanjing of the Japanese Imperial Invasion was awarded her the "Special Contribution Award for the Research of the Nanjing Massacre History" in recognition of her outstanding contributions over more than a decade in investigating and researching the facts of the Nanjing Massacre. Nanjing War · The Soul of the Divided Victims, a book collecting testimonies from Nanjing Massacre victims, powerfully exposes and defeats the conspiracy of some Japanese to deny the historical facts of the Nanjing Massacre.
