[Content Summary] We live on the only planet capable of supporting life, the blue planet Earth, which provides everything for human survival and development—vast spaces, fresh air, fertile soil, clean water, abundant food, and more. As the product of Earth's evolution and the wisest of all creatures, humans once lived in harmony with the Earth and all things, developing in coordination. However, the production and living activities of modern human society have disrupted this harmony. The intensity of human exploitation of Earth's resources and the extent of environmental destruction have reached an unbearable level. While admiring our achievements, humans have also personally experienced the severity of environmental problems. Global warming is accelerating, acid rain is spreading, the ozone layer is thinning, soil erosion and desertification are worsening, forest resources are declining year by year, biodiversity is disappearing at an alarming rate, water scarcity is intensifying, and environmental pollution is increasingly endangering human health. Global environmental disasters are occurring more frequently. Pollution poses a self-inflicted catastrophe for humanity, and this is not alarmist—it is happening right now. The harsh reality tells us that the unfair and irrational practice of sacrificing the environment and resources for social and economic development and material progress must be changed immediately. Since the mid-20th century, with humanity's growing awareness of environmental issues and the rapid development of global environmental protection efforts, environmental science and technology have emerged. It encompasses a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of environmental problems, scientific research to prevent and mitigate their causes and effects, as well as engineering technologies and political, legal, economic, administrative, and educational measures to protect the environment. Environmental protection and sustainable development are not only the action agenda for contemporary human society but also the necessity for ensuring the survival and development of our future generations. As the new generation of youth, the pioneers and inheritors of humanity's great cause, we should fully recognize the severity of environmental pollution harm, diligently study environmental science knowledge, and bravely shoulder the responsibility of environmental and pollution governance!
