Features: The spring breeze of reform swept across the vast land of China. Reform means change. Change that is eternal. Under the new economic system, it is imperative to reform all unreasonable aspects. Opening up means opening our doors to welcome guests; stepping out of our doors to learn from foreign countries. We must learn science, culture, and all good and useful things from foreign countries. And before learning these, we must first learn foreign languages. Thus, in response to the call to learn science and culture, a wave of enthusiasm for learning foreign languages surged. Learning Japanese is just one of the hot currents in this wave. It must be admitted that since the founding of the country, Japanese language teaching has lagged behind that of English and other major foreign languages. Due to limitations in publishing and printing conditions, reference books on Japanese learning were scarce in variety and limited in quantity. Japanese-Chinese dictionaries and grammar books occasionally appeared in the market. However, compared to the numerous English reference books, they were pitifully few. Especially grammar books, often thick volumes, could solve the general problems of learners, but deeper issues left readers struggling. Due to the existence of the above problems, coupled with the impact of the enthusiasm for learning Japanese, we were inspired to do something beneficial for Japanese learners. Thus, we encouraged several colleagues passionate about Japanese teaching to work together to launch the "Essential Japanese Learning Series." This series breaks down the various aspects of Japanese grammar into smaller, categorized units according to the types of words and the needs of learning Japanese, allowing readers to choose what they need based on their circumstances. The series is divided into 14 volumes: Nouns, Verbs, Adjectives, Adverbs, Particles, Auxiliary Verbs, Conjunctions, Compound Words, Honorific Language, Japanese Expressions, Practical Writing, Japanese-Chinese Translation Classroom, Audio Guidance, and Idiomatic Phrases. Each volume is designed in the format of Explanation, Exercises, Answers, and References, striving for concise and easy-to-understand explanations; rich examples and diverse exercises to make the content clear at a glance. Although this series is primarily aimed at learners at the university sophomore level or above, it will also be highly beneficial and helpful for self-learners.
