Features: Feng Zikai (1898—1975), also known as Feng Run and Feng Ren, styled Zikai, was a native of Chongde, Zhejiang (now part of Tongxiang). In his early years, he studied painting under Li Shu at the Zhejiang Provincial Normal School. In 1921, he went to Japan to study painting and returned to Shanghai to teach the following year. In 1927, he published his first collection of cartoons, Zikai Cartoons. In 1929, he became an editor at the Kaiping Publishing House. From 1930 to 1937, he devoted himself to painting and writing. After the outbreak of the War of Resistance, he taught at Zhejiang University in Yishan and the National Art College in Chongqing. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, he served as the Vice Chairman of the Shanghai Federation of Literature and Arts and the Standing Committee Member of the China Artists Association. His major works include the prose collections Yuanyuan Hall Notes, More Notes from Yuanyuan Hall, and Zikai Modern Prose, as well as over ten other works, collections of cartoons such as Zikai Cartoons, You Sheng Painting Collection, and Painting Lu Xun's Novels, and numerous academic treatises and translated works.
