Features: Although the idea that "personality determines fate" may be overly subjective and pessimistic, personality traits do indeed have a significant impact on an individual's level of social achievement, interpersonal relationships, and social functioning. To a considerable extent, personality disorders increase the risk of developing various psychological disorders and mental illnesses, influencing the onset, development, and outcome of these conditions. The comorbidity rate of personality disorders with various mental or psychological disorders ranges from 4% to 50%, and if personality traits that are prominent (but do not fully meet the diagnostic criteria for personality disorders) are included, the figure is even higher. Individuals with personality disorders are more likely to experience psychological disorders or mental illnesses at a younger age, have poor social support, perceive more stress, exhibit lower tolerance, have poorer prognoses, respond poorly to various treatments, and experience more severe symptom manifestations and lower quality of life. Conversely, various mental or psychological disorders may also lead to or exacerbate personality changes and disorders, increasing the likelihood of interpersonal problems and impairing social functioning.
This book adopts the perspective of integrating various theoretical viewpoints—such as behaviorism, cognitive theory, client-centered therapy, interpersonal theory, family systems, and psychodynamic theory—to treat personality disorders, as advocated by Theodore Millon. It continues Theodore Millon's "interactional psychotherapy" approach. The original author wrote this book with the intention of saving time for practitioners by providing a set of selectable and searchable treatment plans. However, in reality, it holds strong reference value, reflects an integrative orientation, and offers a model for the standardized documentation and management of psychological counseling and therapy in China in the future. It is highly practical, operational, and searchable. Additionally, it holds equal value as a guide for the parents and relatives of patients. They can gain helpful principles for supporting and guiding their loved ones with personality disorders, providing more effective assistance.
