The childhood stage is the period when memory power is strongest in a person's life. By reading classic passages, cultural cultivation, intellectual development, and character development can be achieved. The "Classic Reading Pocket Books" feature large fonts, small formats, standard phonetic annotations, and come with exquisite VCD discs, making them convenient for memorization and portability. A Child's Language is one of the "Classic Reading Pocket Books." The compiler of A Child's Language is Lü Desheng, styled Jinxi, a native of Ningling, Henan during the Jiajing era of the Ming Dynasty. He advocated that children should receive proper education as soon as they develop perception. He believed that some folk songs popular at the time, such as "Lighting a lamp in the east room makes the west room bright," were harmless to children but offered no benefit to moral cultivation. Therefore, he wrote new songs to replace the old ones, which is the text presented here. The language is simple and easily understood by everyone. It uses four-character, six-character, and mixed-character forms to convey principles of conduct and the importance of good moral character, though it also contains some negative elements that require analysis and discernment. Lü Desheng's son, Lü Kun, read his father's A Child's Language and found it insufficient, so he wrote A Continuation of a Child's Language, which is also divided into four-character, six-character, and mixed-character sections but contains more adult-oriented content. This book includes both A Continuation of a Child's Language and Lü Desheng's A Girl's Language as appendices for reference. Based on authoritative versions, this book references other editions for collation and includes a "Quick Guide" section for colloquial translations or necessary annotations.
