Segment: 2 Tomato Classification
Tomato is a herbaceous or semi-shrub herbaceous plant, annual or perennial. There are many tomato varieties, and the cultivated ones are also diverse. Currently, they are generally distinguished based on the size, shape of the fruit, morphology of stems and leaves, whether the stems are erect or vine-like. Tomatoes are distributed worldwide, and the natural distribution range of this genus is between 65°N and 40°S.
2.1 Fine-leaf Tomato
Fine-leaf tomato is a near-wild species with slender stems, small leaves, and very small round fruits with bright red color. Each cluster can produce 12 to 15 fruits, with a sour taste, numerous seeds, and not cultivated for food.
2.2 Peru Tomato
Peru tomato is a wild type with many glandular hairs on the surface, small fruits, and two chambers. It is not cultivated for food (as shown in Figure 2-1).

2.3.1 Ordinary Tomato
Most varieties of general economic cultivation are included in this variety (as shown in Figure 2-2). Cultivated tomatoes have large fruit shapes, numerous leaves, vigorous plant growth, and vine-like characteristics. The fruits are round or slightly flattened, with 4 to 6 chambers, and the fruit color includes deep red, pink, light yellow, orange, etc. The stem segments are vine-like with many branches. This is the most common type of cultivated tomato.
