Features: There are too many cartoonists in the world, countless in number, but those who can truly be called world masters of humor are as rare as morning stars. Joaquín Salvador Lavado, better known as Quino, is undoubtedly one of the few world masters of humor. Born in Mendoza, Argentina, in 1932, Quino later settled in Buenos Aires. In his early years, he studied at the School of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires and made a living as a painter after graduation. In the mid-1960s, he gained fame by creating the comic strip "Mafalda" for the well-known weekly magazine Pais and the newspaper La Prensa in Buenos Aires.
In addition to "Mafalda," over the decades, Quino has created a vast number of single-panel cartoons and non-series comic strips, which have been compiled into over a dozen collections such as Men and Women, Quino's Therapy, The Birth of Man, and Don't Shout at Me. His works have had a global impact. Quino excels at using a sharp, detached perspective to critically examine human nature and dissect the myriad aspects of everyday life. His works are biting and, piercing to the heart, and his narrative skills and artistic techniques have reached the pinnacle of perfection.
In the early 1990s, our publishing house was the first to introduce Quino's comic works to China, releasing two versions—Mafalda and Quino's Comics—which had a certain influence domestically. However, due to the limitations of the time, the works included in those two versions were very limited. Currently, through our persistent efforts, we have obtained the copyright to Quino's comics and are able to present his masterpieces in their entirety. We have completely reorganized all of Quino's works, dividing them into five volumes: A World of Wonders, Adam and Eve, Between the Sexes, Men and Women, and Mafalda. This volume, Adam and Eve, is one of them.
