Features: The binturong, also known as the masked palm civet, white-faced civet, or silvered civet, resembles a domestic cat but is more slender. It measures 45–62 cm in body length and 30–45 cm in tail length, with a sharper snout and a longer head compared to a domestic cat. There is a relatively wide white stripe running from the tip of the nose to the back of the head and above the eyes. In China, there are currently three subspecies of binturong known—the northern subspecies, southern subspecies, and nominate subspecies. The northern subspecies is distributed in areas north of the Yangtze River, while the southern subspecies is found south of the Yangtze River and between the Yangtze River and the Tropic of Cancer. The nominate subspecies is primarily concentrated in the western part of Guangxi, the southern part of Guangdong, and Xishuangbanna in the southern part of Yunnan. The nominate subspecies is commonly referred to as the small seed civet, with a smaller body size, gray-black fur with slight white spots, and is highly favored in the Hong Kong and Macau markets. The binturong is a sought-after mountain delicacy, with its market price steadily increasing. The conditions and technology for its industrialized production are already mature, making binturong farming a promising prospect. This book summarizes the author's years of research and practical experience in binturong taming and breeding. In addition to introducing the biological characteristics of the binturong and its requirements for artificial farming environments and equipment, it focuses on the technical challenges of binturong farming, providing detailed explanations of taming methods, feed formulation, high-yield breeding techniques, scientific feeding and management, and disease prevention. The book also covers the collection, processing, and consumption of binturong. Rich in content and practical methods, it is easy to understand. Readers can gain the secrets to successful, high-quality, and efficient binturong farming. This book is suitable for farmers, breeders, professional technicians, and students and teachers from rural vocational high schools and agricultural colleges who are interested in raising binturong for profit.
