Features: If there is no determination to swiftly and decisively advance the property rights reform and structural adjustment of state-owned enterprises, it will undoubtedly increase the cost of the entire reform system and economic operation, hinder the progress of the economic system reform and social and economic development, and may even lead to the complete loss of existing reform achievements, endangering the prospects and destiny of China's reform and opening-up. To better play the role of the state economy in developing a socialist market economy and gradually improve the socialist market economy system, it is necessary to deepen the reform of state-owned enterprises without delay and achieve the reform goals as soon as possible. As an important component of the micro-foundations of the national economy, state-owned enterprises in China will continue to fulfill institutional and policy functions and roles in the long run, and research on state-owned enterprises will also continue. We are fully aware that although this study focuses on several major issues of state-owned enterprises, there are two main limitations: first, the depth of research is still insufficient, with some discussions being superficial, and some basic viewpoints or research conclusions may require further argumentation and verification, while the research methods are overly simplistic; second, in China, the reform and development of state-owned enterprises is a long-term process, and as a research topic, it is a complex and large-scale systematic project that requires long-term attention from the entire society. This study can only selectively explore some urgent major issues. Even so, numerous omissions are unavoidable, such as the performance of state-owned enterprises and the assessment of their operators, the market-oriented selection and compensation mechanisms for senior executives of state-owned enterprises, the choice of pathways for the exit or entry of state capital, and the channels and effects of state capital in driving and influencing social capital, and so on. Addressing these issues will also be the direction of our further efforts. This book is merely a phased achievement in the research on the reform and development of state-owned enterprises.
