Publisher:
Publishing Date: 2003-04-01
Features: In ancient China, poetry and "sao" were often mentioned together, with "sao" referring to Li Sao, a general term for the Chu Ci represented primarily by Qu Yuan's works. Since the Zhao and Song dynasties, there has been an increasing number of illustrations depicting Qu Yuan and his works. During the transition between the Ming and Qing dynasties, Xiao Yuncong's Li Sao Illustrated Series, as well as the Complete Li Sao Illustrated Series copied and supplemented by Men Yingzhao during the Qianlong period of the Qing dynasty, have been highly valued by later generations due to their extensive subject matter and unique artistic contributions, holding both academic and aesthetic significance. The Complete Li Sao Illustrated Series is based on the 1935 edition of Shanghai Commercial Press's Reproduced Wenyuan Pavilion Four Treasuries Collection and meticulously corrects some textual errors in the original. It also adds approximately forty additional Chu Ci illustrations from the Song dynasty onwards and provides thoughtful commentaries and annotations for each section of the Chu Ci, making it of significant academic and documentary value.
